URGENT: We are raising $100,000 to ensure our Kensington community members survive the winter! Help us provide emergency winter services and supply packs for people facing housing insecurity. Great news: a group of funders has pledged to MATCH your gift, dollar-for-dollar, up to $100,000!
Despite the many hundreds of people forced to sleep outside in even the coldest months, Prevention Point is the only place in Kensington that regularly distributes emergency supplies, and runs overnight warming centers. During these events, staff step up to work through the night to ensure our participants aren’t left to freeze to death in the street. We provide hot dinner for them at the beginning of the night, and breakfast the next morning.
Thanks to your generous support, last year we hosted 13 overnight Code Blue warming centers. In keeping with social distancing protocols, we could admit 70 people per night. In total, we hosted 260 people throughout the winter during Philadelphia’s coldest and most dangerous nights, and provided even more people with warm meals.
• Heated, tented areas where people can warm up while remaining socially distanced
• Reconfiguring our main building for overnight warming centers
• Providing emergency supply packs including blankets, hats, hand-warmers, mittens, socks and more for clients that are not able to access services to prevent them from dying on the street due to extreme weather exposure.
With your help, we can save hundreds of people’s lives this winter. And, thanks to a group of anonymous funders, your donation is MATCHED, dollar-for-dollar, up to $100,000! Thank you believing in Prevention Point’s mission and donating to Winter Warmth!
