Prevention Point Philadelphia is honored to be one of only seven organizations across the country to receive a grant from The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) to address overdoses in our community. With support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), these funds designate PPP as an Overdose Response Strategy (ORS) pilot project and will help PPP develop resources and outreach services specifically geared toward BIPOC communities and people who primarily use stimulants.
Over the past 10 years, stimulants have increasingly been involved in fatal overdoses. In 2021, 30% of all overdose deaths in the USA involved stimulants. The PPP team will focus on sharing knowledge about overamping (negative physical or psychological responses to stimulants); fentanyl contamination and opioid overdose; safer stimulant use practices; and treatment options.
Congratulations to the other amazing organizations that have been awarded this grant. Read the full press release here.
