With Thanksgiving tomorrow, Prevention Point Philadelphia (PPP) staff are feeling gratitude for our volunteers this week! Christian Hovey has been volunteering with PPP since August 2024, first in the Syringe Services Program and now in the Prevention Point Post Office where we have mailboxes for over 8,000 individuals. When asked why she volunteers with PPP, Christian said:
"I have close family and friends who have faced substance use disorder. Some have passed away from overdose, others are still struggling. I couldn’t help the people I love directly, so volunteering here has been incredibly healing. I love being here. I know people wonder why I do this, but I truly love it."
The feeling is mutual. Nancy Santiago, Post Office Supervisor, affectionately calls her "CC," saying that she "is everything wrapped in one: awesome, caring, gets the job done. She interacts warmly with the participants, too. She's just an amazing person."
Christian’s experience is just one example of the many ways people are making a difference at PPP. By volunteering, donating, or simply spreading the word, you can help us continue to provide vital services to our community.
“Prevention Point is amazing; it’s important to meet people where they are," Christian emphasizes. "You can’t force someone into treatment. We’re creating a supportive community, and people find help here. The program is incredible. Everyone is so helpful and positive. I feel hopeful and am thriving here.”
